The Sigil of Lucifer: Origin and Meaning
Updated
The design known as the Sigil of Lucifer (or Seal of Lucifer) comes from the Grimorium Verum, a grimoire of spirit-summoning instructions circulated in Europe from around the 18th century. It is one of the most searched occult symbols online.
Where it comes from
The Grimorium Verum ('True Grimoire') lists seals for named spirits, including Lucifer. Like most grimoires its origins are murky โ it claims an older date than scholars accept, and versions vary between manuscripts.
How it is used today
In modern Luciferianism the sigil is widely used as an emblem of knowledge, independence and self-determination rather than as a summoning tool. It also appears in music, art and tattoo culture.
Is it the same as a personal sigil?
No. Grimoire seals represent a spirit or entity. A personal sigil โ the kind our free generator makes โ represents your own intention and is built from your own words.
A note on respect
For some people this is a religious symbol; for others it is offensive. If you plan to wear or display it, it helps to know its history and how it will be read.
